Although it will differ from person to person, we would say that an average person could take anywhere between half an hour to an hour to make a really beautiful butterfly.

How to draw a butterfly?

We would suggest that you use drawing guides before you begin. Making light dotted lines on your paper – both horizontally and vertically – will give you an easy reference as you draw. If you don’t want to make pencil lines on your paper, you can always fold your paper in half – once horizontally and once vertically – in order to create creases that will also work as your reference in the same manner.

Here is your step-by-step guide on how to draw a butterfly:

Step 1: On the middle line of your paper, draw the body and head of your butterfly.

Step 2: Now draw your top wings on both sides of the body. Make them as symmetrical as possible.

Step 3: Do the same thing with the bottom wings.

Step 4: For the designs of your butterfly’s wings, start making symmetrical shapes on the top two wings.

Step 5: Fill your top wings with the symmetrical shapes until you are satisfied with how it looks.

Step 6: Now start drawing symmetrical shapes on your two bottom wings.

Step 7: Finish designing the bottom two wings of your butterfly.

Step 8: Next, draw the antenna of your butterfly.

Step 9: Outline your beautiful butterfly with a black marker. Fill in the colors.

That’s it! Your beautiful butterfly is ready. Did you and your child enjoy drawing it with us?
