How to draw an abstract face?2 min read

Introduction

If your students seem to be drawing smaller and smaller each day and wiping their paper to death while they’re at it, try this abstract face drawing project. The tutorial states that the lines should touch the edge of the paper so that everyone has a design that fills the entire sheet. This means that there are all kinds of enclosed spaces that can have an additional pattern and many different colors on top.

Which medium to choose for drawing abstract faces?

You don’t have to create it with pastels and watercolors (although that’s my favorite combination), you can finish it off with markers or gouache (scroll down to see some examples). The point is, this will force students to draw an unconventional drawing and most likely result in something very different from their usual approach to drawing a face.

How long does it take to draw an abstract portrait? 

When the drawing is done, it should have a lot of closed shapes that just need to be filled with lots of bright colors.
