10 Ways to Schedule Your Homeschool Calendar
1. Set the days
You can have flexible schedules for your homeschooling. Schedule that starts with the week after July 4, ends with a week off for Thanksgiving, and then goes back to six weeks after the New Year. You can plan for a day off with 6 working days. Choose the best way for your family.
2. Set the year breaks
Plan the breaks for the year. Most of our friends prefer a traditional school year schedule that starts after Labor Day. They go back to school until Memorial Day.
- 3-month summer break
- One-week fall break
- Two-week Christmas break
- One-week spring break
3. Short breaks ideally
Ideally, you should have a schedule that allows for a shorter break each week. You can also schedule a shorter summer break or a longer fall break.
4. Quarterly divisions
A half-year schedule is ideal for families that follow traditional semester and quarter plans. It can be split into four 9-week segments, with a 2-week recess between each.
5. School daybreak
For those who prefer a year-round schedule, opting for a four-day school week may be the best option. It allows for a full year-round schedule with the flexibility to take a few weeks off as needed.
6. Break down the school days
There are 180 days a year that you can split into 12 months. Each month, you’ll have 15 school days.
7. Planning for each day
Many families prefer to track their school days, but it would be very challenging for the family to manage. Instead, try to plan out what you do each day in your homeschool planner.
8. Traditional school schedule
Families with multiple children may prefer the same school calendar so they can all work together. School employees may prefer the simplicity of having everyone follow the same schedule.
9. Work with your calendar
Homeschooling families often schedule their school year within a specific calendar year. This method is not very common in our country. It could also work for other families. In addition, it could work well for a year-round schedule.
10. Customised schedule
Ideally, have a certain rhythm and routine. Get a customized schedule according to the needs of the family. You can do a 4-day week, a 5-day week, or a 3-day week. This method works for everyone, as long as you make sure that 180 days are met.
Conclusion
Give yourself time to find the right fit. There are no set rules or solutions, but being flexible is key to making sure that you get the most out of homeschooling. It can happen anytime!
